Spinach, fenugreek, cucumber and eggplant seedlings on their way

We are gearing up to put up fifty baskets up on trees in the coming months. In the first basket we sowed tomato and spinach seeds and everyone is curious about what is happening in the basket. Are the seeds sprouting? (BTW, they haven’t sprouted yet, Apoorva climbed up the tree to check today.)  Of course it is generally wiser to transplant seedlings than to sow seeds directly, and the cabbage and eggplant seedlings we had sown in the patches of land earlier are doing really well, so we decided we will plant a seedling in the second basket (now painted and ready), not seeds.

The seedling tray is also something I picked up from Harsha Seeds and had  spots for ninety-eight seeds top be sown (fourteen rows, seven columns). I did three rows of spinach seeds, Samvida did three rows of radish seeds, Apoorva did three rows of eggplant seeds and Mitali did three rows of cucumber seeds. In the remaining two rows we did fenugreek seeds.

The seeds were put in pinches of compost. After the seeds were all sown, I sprayed water onto the entire tray. The idea was to put the seedling tray into another tray with water, but I couldn’t find a tray of the right size in the market so I watered the tray with the spray-can. [UPDTD (feb 20): found the tray and now the seedling tray is in a try of water, had to cut up some rows to make them all fit though]

Now for a patient wait for the seeds to sprout and grow into seedlings which we can transplant.
